30 years celebrations of PILER
May 1, 2012 – Dec 2012

Activities:
The idea behind marking the thirty years of PILER is to promote a focused discussion on labour issues in the mainstream covering not only the existing challenges but also the processes that shaped the labour struggles over the years and how national, regional and international influences impacted the direction charted by the workers in their struggle for equal rights. It was therefore important to design activities that adequately covered the diverse content planned and also cut across mainstream mediums of communication to reach a wider audience.

The thirty years will be marked by way of a series of public interactions, seminars, conferences, cultural activities including performances, mushaira (poetry recital), audio-visual exhibits, and production and launch of publications, all focusing on workers. The broader objective is to highlight the struggle of labour movement in Pakistan, its achievements and gaps and the lessons learnt; reflect on the impact of the emerging world order on labour; and consult on strategizing the movement in the age where neo-liberalism, despite suffering a setback, is seeking to re-assert itself.
