Introduction
Pakistan Institute
of Labour Education and Research (PILER), established in 1982, is a
not-for-profit, citizen sector organization engaged in research, training and
advocacy in the areas of labour rights and labour legislation, social justice
and human development, and regional solidarity and peace.
Vision,
Mission and Strategies
PILER envisions a just and equitable
society where fundamental rights of people are respected, ensured and guaranteed.
Committed to advancing social justice, PILER aims to promote a democratic
and effective labour movement. With a view to achieve its goal, PILER
focuses on strengthening people’s organizations—at the workplace and in their
communities—in their struggles to push market, society and state towards the
economic justice of realizing secure and prosperous livelihoods. Strategies
at PILER include:
1. initiate and strengthen mobilization and organizations
of workers (male/female) and communities around issues of labour rights, broadly
defined to include public services such as education, health and shelter,
that are basic to opportunities for decent lives and livelihoods;
2. assist in training and education for effective and sustained
mobilization and organization of workers—both in the formal and informal sector
of economy;
3. provide people’s organizations and movements with timely
research and documentation;
4. engage in effective policy advocacy;
5. facilitate networking in national and regional coalitions
and alliances to create an expanded social and political space for universal
economic rights and regional peace.
